    Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrels are made from White Oak, a common domestic hard wood that is used in many applications. The wood is used for just about everything including cabinetry, furniture, interior trim, flooring, veneer, and of course barrels.

    The charred inside of a whiskey barrel adds a distinct smokey flavor to the beverage but it also gives the dice crafted from it a unique added flair. The D6s in our polyhedral sets come with the 6 side bearing that fine black char.

    These dice have been crafted from compressed hops then infilled with a metallic copper ink. And yes the do smell strongly of Hops. Hops was first used in beer sometime during the 9th century. Over the next few hundred years it would almost entirely replace the traditional gruit used to flavor what we now call beer. More on that in a minute because first we must discuss what exactly a hop is.

Historically speaking Mpingo, or African Blackwood, was the dark black wood that was imported in to Egypt for thousands of years, and even mentioned in the Bible. So the original Ebony was a Rosewood. Go Figure…
