Desert Catclaw, known scientifically as Senegalia greggii, and formerly Acacia greggii, is more of a bush than it is a tree. It’s known as the “wait a minute bush” because its thorns often “hook” people walking by causing them to “wait a minute” and remove the spines. This bush is all over the Grand Senora Desert and found in southwest Texas, California, and Northern Mexico. Its young seeds are edible, but when matured they are poisonious and should be avoided.
