  • Ziricote

    Ziricote

    $42.00$167.00

Ziricote is famous for it’s “landscape” grain pattern, which swirls and billows much like an ancient Chinese landscape painting. It is a very hard, dense wood that is prone to tear out during the dice making process which makes it a giant pain to work with, but the results speak for themselves. The dark swirling grain patterns make Ziricote dice some of the most beautiful dice we produce. And the rare sapwood contrast really sets off the dark swirls in the dice. Ziricote has a dense glassy tap tone making these dice quite musical when rolled much like the finer Rosewoods. This also makes Ziricote quite sought after for high end musical instruments. Ziricote makes for some of the best wooden dice in the world.

  • Pink Ivory

    Pink Ivory

    $63.00$273.00

Pink Ivory was a sacred wood to the Zulu chiefs of South Africa. It was said that if anyone other than a Zulu chief was found to possess the wood, they would be executed. At one time, it was said to be rarer than diamonds.  The wood grows in various parts of South Africa, and takes hundreds of years to reach a size suitable to make a blank. It turns out however, that it is not quite as rare as we have been led to believe, and nowadays this extremely slow-growing and exceedingly hard wood is harvested with proper permits from the South African government to ensure a sustainable harvest for decades to come. Even so it is still one of the rarest commercially available woods in the world.

  • Ancient Kauri

    Ancient Kauri

    $63.00$273.00

Kauri is a giant tree and the oldest workable wood on the planet. How old is it? well, we say 50 thousand years, but that isn’t entirely cut and dry. When you’re on the Autobahn, behind the wheel and pegging your speedometer out at 150 mph, how fast are you going? The speedometer says 150, but you know you’re going faster than that. Radio carbon dating stops at 50 thousand years. Only thing we know for sure is that these trees were ancient before they died, some 50 thousand years ago.
