Lapis Lazuli Dice with Nickel Silver
$84.00 – $428.00Lapis Lazuli Dice with Nickel Silver
$84.00 – $428.00Made from Lapis Lazuli and inlaid with Nickel Silver. First mined around 7,000 B.C., Lapis Lazuil’s deep blue coloration was the very first blue pigment known to man. Artists from Ancient Egypt to the Renaissance prized it’s Ultramarine blue color. That name comes from the Latin ultramarinus, which translates, “beyond the sea”, owing to the pigment being imported from Afghani mines during the 14th and 15th centuries by Italian traders. This made Lapis Lazuli highly sought after and demanded correspondingly high prices. Artists reserved this bluest of pigments for their best works and it was commonly used to depict the robes of angles or the Virgin Mary. Where as the Ancient Egyptians used the stone to adorn the tombs of Pharaohs. Fun fact, Lapis Lazuli smells faintly of acrid sulfur when worked not too dissimilar from asphalt

Howlite Dice Inlaid with Brass
$84.00 – $428.00Howlite Dice Inlaid with Brass
$84.00 – $428.00These particular dice, have been crafted from Howlite and inlaid with Brass. Howlite was discovered in Nova Scotia by Henry How in 1868. It is most often found in irregular deposits resembling a dirty cauliflower. Once worked and polished, the dirty cauliflower appearance gives way to a lustrous white with black veining. Originally Howlite was tossed aside as nuisance mineral in gypsum mines until How’s discovery. These days you can find this mineral sold as “white” or “buffalo turquoise”. It is quite often dyed to resemble genuine turquoise, as the porous nature of Howlite allows it to take dyes readily. And like turquoise it is easily worked and used to make many decorative objects.

Ziricote
$42.00 – $167.00Ziricote
$42.00 – $167.00Ziricote is famous for it’s “landscape” grain pattern, which swirls and billows much like an ancient Chinese landscape painting. It is a very hard, dense wood that is prone to tear out during the dice making process which makes it a giant pain to work with, but the results speak for themselves. The dark swirling grain patterns make Ziricote dice some of the most beautiful dice we produce. And the rare sapwood contrast really sets off the dark swirls in the dice. Ziricote has a dense glassy tap tone making these dice quite musical when rolled much like the finer Rosewoods. This also makes Ziricote quite sought after for high end musical instruments. Ziricote makes for some of the best wooden dice in the world.

Gator Jawbone (Bayou Blue)
$63.00 – $327.00Gator Jawbone (Bayou Blue)
$63.00 – $327.00For those that aren’t aware, bone makes for horrible dice, it’s porous, oddly shaped, prone to chipping, and the larger pieces we need to make dice from are hollow and spongy in the middle thanks to that wonderful thing called marrow. So, for the longest time our standard answer was, “Nope sorry, we don’t make bone dice.”
As it would turn out all those issues are solved once you stabilize the bone and cast it in a urethane resin block. The colored holes you see are the resin filling in the teeth holes in the gator jawbone. The white parts are the actual gator jawbone. Yup, these dice aren’t just crated from any old bone, they’re made from an actual alligator jaw bone fresh from the swamps of Lousiana. Actually, they come from an alligator farm in Louisiana where we source gator jawbones from the largest of farm raised gators as it takes an 8ft gator to have a large enough jawbone to craft our dice from. Much like carnivorous cows, these gators are raised for meat and leather. If you haven’t tried it, fried alligator tail is really delicious.

$42.00 – $167.00Jim Beam Oak Whiskey Barrel Dice

Their Bourbons are aged for twice the legally required minimums. Meaning that these blanks have been soaking in that liquid libation for a minimum of 4 years and some of the whiskeys aging 12 years or more. The barrels are coopered by hand, from charred white oak and metal hoops. You can see the char from the insides of these barrels preserved on the 6 side of every d6 we make from them.

Black Poisonwood (Caribbean Rosewood)
$42.00 – $167.00Black Poisonwood (Caribbean Rosewood)
$42.00 – $167.00Chechen is also called Black Poisonwood, so named for its toxic black sap that can cause severe allergic reactions. Don’t worry, your dice won’t be poisonous: Chechen wood is perfectly safe to handle, and only its sap is toxic. Chechen can vary throughout a wide range of tones. Reds, oranges, browns, and contrasting dark stripes characterize this wood. This variation makes each set of dice extremely unique. While not a true rosewood, it’s often sold under the name Caribbean Rosewood due to its density and rosewood-like coloration.

Malachite Dice with Copper
$84.00 – $428.00Malachite Dice with Copper
$84.00 – $428.00Malachite has been mined since the 3rd millennium B.C. and smelted for its copper content. That copper is what gives Malachite its noted green coloration. Ancient Egyptians associated its green color, known to them as wadj, with rebirth and fertility. They believed that the afterlife contained an eternal paradise know as the “Field of Malachite”. Malachite, like Azurite and Lapis Lazuli, has been used as a pigment since antiquity, though it has more recently been replaced by its synthetic counterpart. Malachite is the second of the two copper carbonate minerals and results from the weathering of Azurite, which is why they are often found in deposits intermixed with one another. Both were melted down for the copper ore in antiquity, so it is fitting that we inlay these dice with Copper numbers.
